We are presented with a new and extraordinary project which will undoubtedly have a profound impact on enthusiasts of frilled canaries, Posture canaries and the world of competitive aviculture as a whole. Countless birds have been studied in meticulous detail, numerous aviaries visited, major shows analysed, endless photographic sessions carried out, and interviews conducted with outstanding breeders — multiple World Champions — who have generously shared their knowledge with the author.

In this work, Antonio Javier Sanz examines, with his characteristic rigour yet using a clear and engaging style, all the direct and indirect aspects of the culture surrounding Frilled Canaries of Form. At the same time, he leaves the door open to a future monograph devoted to Frilled Canaries of Position, a group that is undoubtedly highly attractive and deserving of a separate and detailed study.

The book addresses key general issues common to all frilled canaries, while also exploring in depth many aspects related to housing, breeding, show preparation, selection and care, along with numerous other details that will surprise both novice and experienced fanciers alike. This wealth of information is the result of more than fifty years devoted to breeding, exhibiting and judging, providing the author with an immense body of experience that he now shares with the wider fancy.

As with the author’s previous publications, this work is also a true feast for the senses. It is a book that can be enjoyed simply by leafing through its pages, thanks to an extraordinary collection of images that probably constitutes the finest compilation of frilled canaries ever published. Antonio Javier Sanz, who has also been responsible for the entire graphic and artistic design of the book, presents the birds in a way that not only creates a strong aesthetic and emotional impact, but also clearly highlights the qualities the breeder has sought through careful selection, and of which he is justifiably proud.

It is virtually impossible for any breeder to encounter a collection of this quality assembled at a single show. Seeing all these frilled canaries together, presented in such a spectacular manner, is not only extraordinarily instructive, but also represents the dream visit to an exhibition that every fancier has wished to make.

Antonio Javier Sanz has published numerous works on aviculture in four languages, covering various areas of the fancy, including Colour — a field in which he has been an OMJ-COM International Judge since 1984 — as well as Exotic birds, European Fauna, Hybridisation and now Posture canaries.
